Welcome to "Deto Music", where I post blog entries recommending cool (usually obscure) music.

This time, we'll talk about Southpacific

Southpacific - "Built to Last"

Southpacific was a Canadian post-rock / shoegaze band active in the late 90's/early 00's. They made their debut with the spacey blissrock mini-album, which was untitled, but many fans named it "33" since the running time of the album was actually thirty-three minutes and forty-four seconds long. (e.d. 33 is also the RPM [revolutions per minute] that vinyl albums spin, though this album was only released in CD format.) It was released on Aug. 15, 1998 by the band themselves, and produced by the band's own member, Graeme Fleming. It was later re-released in 2000 as a promo by the band's label, Turnbuckle Records.

Later they followed up with "Constance", their only full-length album and their second album in general, which was recorded in the Spring of 1999, and released on March 14, 2000. The album was meant to be released in late '99, but was delayed until the aforementioned date. This album was once again produced by Graeme. The band later disbanded in August for that year, after playing their last show. Turnbuckle Records folded a couple of years later, and both of Southpacific's releases went out of print as a result.

After Southpacific, all three members seemed to leave the music industry.

Southpacific was:

Graeme Fleming - electric guitar
Joachim Toelke - drums/percussion
Phil Stewart-Bowes - bass guitar

My Guitar

1 min read
So I got my guitar a few days ago. It's a Squier Bullet Strat (not to be confused with the original Bullet model from decades ago). This model is basically a Stratocaster. Same body style, pretty much anything that'd make it a normal Fender Strat. I love it. I've named this beauty "Zoe". I'll have pics up sometime soon.

Was walking to my friend's place (he lives right down the street) and almost got mauled by a fucking pit-bull. Luckily there was a fence nearby, so I did a backflip over it and fucked my hand up in the process. Oh well, got to keep my life at least.

6 AM

1 min read
For some reason, for the past couple weeks or so, I've only been able to fall asleep around 6 AM. It's not even really much to do with my sleep schedule since I have no sleep schedule. I just sleep whenever. It's just that I always either get occupied or something happens to where I'm awake until that time. This time I was up looking at live videos of Tycho performing. That was after I got back in town with some friends after watching the new X-Men film. Only typing this out of boredom. Time to go to sleep.
